QPR Gatekeeper Training: Learn How to Save a Life

13 - 14 September, 2025
12:00 pm — 2:00 pm
Online

Have you ever heard lines like these?

đź’¬ "I think I just want to die." đź’¬ "Mujhe mann kar raha hai bas kal subah main uthu na." đź’¬ "Ab meri life mein kuchh nahi bacha hai."

When someone close to you says something like this, it can feel scary. You may not know what to say. Should you ask more questions? Stay quiet? Tell them to be strong? Call someone?

Most of us freeze in such moments. That's exactly where QPR training comes in.

About QPR Training

QPR stands for Question, Persuade, and Refer—three simple yet powerful steps anyone can learn to help save a life from suicide. Much like CPR helps someone in a cardiac emergency, QPR equips people with practical tools to recognize the early warning signs of suicide, intervene with confidence, and connect the person to life-saving support. This evidence-based training, developed by the QPR Institute (USA) and now adapted for use across the world, empowers everyday individuals, caregivers, frontline workers, and professionals to act as Gatekeepers—people trained to identify those at risk and guide them towards help.

Who Is This Training For?

Although QPR training is for everyone, this workshop is especially designed for those who work closely with high-stress or vulnerable populations, such as:

• LGBTQIA+ individuals who may face stigma, rejection, or identity-related struggles. • Trauma-exposed groups—including survivors, caregivers, and support workers. • People experiencing climate anxiety and eco-distress, particularly among youth and student-led projects. • ASHA workers and frontline health professionals who face stress, burnout, and exposure to suffering on a daily basis. • Mental health professionals and volunteers seeking structured approaches to suicide prevention. • Students and young adults working in high-pressure academic or project-based environments.

If you are in a role where people confide in you, this training can help you identify when someone may be in crisis and how you can intervene safely and effectively.

What You Will Learn:

By the end of this interactive workshop, you will:

• Recognize the warning signs of suicide and understand common myths vs. facts. • Learn how to ask the right questions—compassionately and without fear. • Build the confidence to persuade someone to stay safe and accept help. • Know how to refer them to appropriate resources and professionals. • Explore real-life stories and conversations from the Indian context, making the training practical and relatable.

This is not just about theory—it's about building skills through dialogue, scenarios, and reflection.

Why Does It Matter?

• Suicide is one of the leading causes of death in India, especially among youth and marginalized groups. • QPR training will be conducted keeping the diverse Indian context in mind. Our socio-economic backgrounds shape our lives and emotions, and this will be discussed more in depth in the training. • Many people at risk never walk into a clinic—but they talk to friends, mentors, workers, peers, or family first. That someone they open up to... could be you.

Disclaimer

QPR training is not a form of counseling or therapy, nor does it qualify participants to act as mental health professionals. It is a suicide prevention awareness and skills training program that equips everyday individuals to recognize warning signs, ask supportive questions, and refer people to appropriate resources. If you or someone you know is experiencing suicidal thoughts, please seek immediate help from a mental health professional or call a suicide prevention helpline in your area.
